Be the Change: Every Mother Counts launches “No Mothers Day” @everymomcounts @CTurlington #hwhtw #moms

Every Mother Counts, founded by Christy Turlington Burns, and CHI & Partners are launching an innovative campaign this Mother’s Day to bring attention to the importance of maternal health care.

“The cornerstone of the campaign is a short social issue film that features moms encouraging other moms to join in solidarity by disappearing May 13th, Mother’s Day, because ‘our silence can speak the loudest for all mothers.’ Click here to watch the video.

“Our goal is to leverage Mother’s Day—the day when people are thinking about their mothers most—as a moment to bring the facts about maternal mortality to a wider audience. We believe that once people know the facts, they will want to do what they can to engage. Our hope is that the No Mothers Day campaign will spark energy into Every Mother Counts’ overarching goal of driving 5 million individual actions on maternal health by 2015.

“How You Can Help:
·      Spread the word about our short social issue film and sharing it with your network;
·      Sign up to take part in No Mothers Day yourself on our Facebook page;
·      Inform your friends about the issue of maternal health and with their help, we can prevent 90% of the fatalities that occur due to complications during pregnancy and childbirth; and
·      Post about the No Mothers Day campaign on your social media outlets with the language below.”

Whether you’re a mom, or just have one, find out how you can participate: http://us2.campaign-archive1.com/?u=a37060f836a37740beac206a0&id=7e702b3c8d&e=f50fa4b46c

Hillary Clinton and Julia Roberts: “Clean stoves would save lives, cut pollution”

Check out this post from sister blog SHEenergy:

“Julia Roberts has joined Secretary Clinton’s  Alliance for Clean Cookstoves as a Global Ambassador.  The two penned an op-ed for USAToday on the need for clean cookstoves in the developing world in honor of Mother’s Day.

‘Clean stoves’ would save lives, cut pollution
By Hillary Clinton and Julia Roberts

This Mother’s Day weekend, most of us will enjoy a home-cooked meal — maybe even breakfast in bed. We’ll probably take it for granted that the meal was prepared in a clean kitchen, where the air is safe to breathe. But for nearly half of the world’s population, cooking at home is a deeply dangerous act…”
