Paper to Pearls: Not Just a Necklace

Paper to Pearls‘ “eco-chic African beads” benefit both needy women and the environment.  P2P trains women in Uganda’s refugee camps and needy widows to recycle paper into brilliantly colored, distinctive beaded jewelry – providing them a much-needed source of income. P2P’s website explains:

“Having an income generating activity is a first for most of our beaders. As stability slowly returns to the region and they are beginning to go home, the women are taking their beading skills with them and will continue to bead and develop their businesses.”

I always get compliments on my fire-engine-red Paper to Pearls necklace.  And P2P is a nonprofit, so it’s a purchase you can feel good about for lots of reasons!
