The Center for Global Development’s “Girls Count” report makes the case that supporting girls and women results in better health, economic, and social/political outcomes for their communities.  Among the report’s findings:

– Better-educated mothers tend to have healthier babies and decreased child death rates.  (p. 19)

– Societies pay a price for gender inequality in the form of slower economic growth. (p. 18)

– “Educating girls and reducing the gender gap tended to promote democracy.” (p.18-19)

The report concludes that “girls’ welfare is fundamental in determining economic and social outcomes.”
